About

Taste Crows 015

Well hello there, Internet!  You know me as Fat Chick, but actually the word “Shannon” is written on my birth certificate.  My birth certificate, by the way, is dated October 6, 1974, in case you want to put that on your calendar.  It will remind you to buy me presents.  Lots and lots of presents.

I’ve been blogging since 2006, and in that time I’ve written about, oh, just about whatever comes to mind.  I’ve gone from being a woman who always knows where her passport and dive gear are, to having given myself five too many injections.

In the archives, you’ll find a lot of info on what I’ve previously done.  Previously, as in BEFORE I STARTED SPENDING EXORBITANT AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON STUBBING MY TOE.  For example, I previously did such things as shark diving in the Bahamas, which, while controversial, was one hell of a thrill.

I also panted and gasped all over Macchu Picchu (which I still can’t spell).  Now, I want to make one thing very clear:  The panting and gasping was because I am afraid of heights, not because of the altitude or teh fatz.  Seriously, MP is a MustSeeBeforeDying place, and then when you get there?  When you get there you’ll be all, OMG I’M GOING TO FALL OFF THIS MOUNTAIN.

I’ve chronicalled it all – in detail – on mah bloggity blog. All my travels, all my ups, all my downs, and all the times I’ve been accosted with the dildo cam.  Considering the number of times I’ve openly discussed the length and shape of my vajayjay, I have recieved some well-intentioned feedback that perhaps – and it is only a perhaps – I’ve shared too much.  I replied, “Suck it.”

If you read this blog, in addition to knowing all about my grrrlnads and mah travails, you’ll also know that I live in the greatest city in the world, Chicago.

Randomness July 050

I love this city.  It is my Home, and I am grateful everyday for whatever quirk of fate – also known as the Great Depression – brought my family here.  Otherwise, it is quite possible that I would have grown up in Mississippi, eating fried pickles instead of listening to fantastic FREE music in Millenium Park.

I live in Edgewater, the neighborhood, and I live at Lake Michigan’s edge, literally.  Given the exorbitant assessments and real estate taxes I pay, I feel it is my bankrupt right to mention my Lake view as often as possible.

Randomness July 028

In addition to being a fantabulous place to live as a single gal, Chicago is also a wonderful place to raise children. There are gangs, and drugs, and corrupt politicians, and isn’t that such a gift to give my children, easy access to smack? And a Lake view?  So, since I have all the necessities nearby, I decided it was time to buy myself some jizz and get knocked up.  Internet, meet my Man in a Can, my curious companion on the SMC journey, my Anonymous Jizz, AJ:

At one point in time, I joked about turkey basters, bars, and a guy named Bob.  7 failed IUIs later, hundreds of needles and countless synthetic and urine-derived hormones later, I’m not laughing anymore.  Instead, I give the stink eye whenever anyone mentions the Octomom around me, and I’m praying that IVF#1 was a success letting go of that special brand of bitterness that comes from a wide variety of fertility failures.

A little about the new blog:

After about 2 years of procrastinating, feeling overwhelmed, hiring – and firing – several shady web developers, I finally purchased a case of Vodka and went about learning WordPress.  When that didn’t work, I purchased another case of Vodka, bought a few books that had “Dummy” in the title, and tried again.  My liver is grateful for the bookstore.

I originally started my blog with a total of one post on Myspace, and then I moved it to Blogspot.  This was back in the heady days of December, 2006.  On August 1, 2009, I launched Musings here.

I have been inspired by bloggers such as The Pioneer Woman, Stirrup Queens and Dooce.  I love how they made their sites their own little niche on the Intertubes, and filled their pages with content they love – from photography to cooking to family to community.  This blog is my little home on the Web, and, like these fabulous women, I will update it with whatever strikes my fancy.  Right now, I’m all about learning to cook (I’m going to be a mom, after all!), my little point and shoot, and crafts.

I hope you enjoy mah bloggity blog.  Thanks for stopping by, and leave a comment or twelve!
