In Japan, it is customary to drag yourself hop out of bed and go see the first sunrise of the New Year. This is a tradition at Chez Fat Chick, especially since it only requires me to put on my coat (over my pajamas) and walk across the street. This morning’s sunrise was cloudy, but beautiful nonetheless. Enjoy!

I have knee-deep snow to offer up… I’ll even throw in a little shovelling as a bonus!
beautiful
How absolutely beautiful!
Good for you! So impressed that you did that – will have to do that next year for 2011!.. i have spent the entire day in bed.. not quite as impressive as your early morning feat. Happy New Year! May 2010 bring you joy.
PS – LOVE the pic. And I meant not MUCH sun. But you knew that.
Good for you! We stayed up all night at an onsen by the beach, then went to the beach at sunrise before heading back home on the train when I lived in Japan. Easier if you just stay up for it. I didn’t keep up with the tradition today, even though it’s not a far stretch for me – Dad lives on the beach (Lake Erie), so I could have paid him an early morning visit, or spent the night there. Oh well, it was nice to sleep through it, I must say! It’s snowing here now, so not nuch sun to talk about anyway.
Beautiful sunrise! Happy New Year!
